National Mosque is the best attraction in Malaysia that provides accommodation up to 15,000 worshippers. Negara’s star-shaped main dome represents 13 states and the five pillars of Islam in Malaysia. Designed by UK architect, the contemporary styled mosque is a star shape dome with the most distinguishable features, impressive outdoor gardens, white marble pools and fountains. The uniquely designed building embodies a contemporary expression of Islamic art, calligraphy and ornamentation. It is diagonally opposite to the Kuala Lumpur old railway station and a short walk to the sprawling Lake Gardens. The building was designed by the team of three persons which was appropriated by the Malaysian Government. The modern approach is symbolic of the newly independent Malaysia. Its key features are 73- metre high minaret with concrete roof and large spans which are required in the main gathering hall. There is an underground passage that connects the National Mosque. While entering the mosque, visitors are recommended to cover their heads with scarves that can be borrowed from the main entrance of the mosque.
The mosque is a great symbol of the Malaysian Islamic country. Situated near the lake gardens, Bird Park and deer park that gives visitors an opportunity to see the free flight walk-in aviary which is known as a home to many indigenous and migratory birds. Its design was inspired by an idea of an open umbrella, stands prominently against the skyline the building also includes a hall, mausoleum, library, offices and courtyard. There is also a playing area for the accommodation of 5000 people. It is covered by a pleated shell which stands in a landscaped garden and reputed as a beautiful mosque in the South East Asia. It symbolises the aspiration of an independent nation & the largest mosque that consists a unique design.
